    Stabilization Comes First

What Is Residential Mental Health Treatment?

Residential mental health treatment, also called inpatient psychiatric care, is 24/7 live-in treatment for adults whose symptoms have become too severe to manage safely in outpatient therapy. At Still Mind, every admitted client is rated LOCUS Level 5, the highest voluntary level of psychiatric care. As a Joint Commission accredited facility, we are held to the same national safety and quality standards as leading hospitals.

Our philosophy: stabilization comes before everything else. Trauma processing while dysregulated isn't safe or effective. We restore sleep, balance medications, and rebuild daily structure first so deeper recovery work has solid ground.

Within your first week, our clinical team builds a measurable treatment plan: normalized sleep (7–8 hrs/night), medication consistency, and a tracked mood baseline (PHQ-9). This becomes your roadmap for the entire stay.

A Different Level of Psychiatric Care

Why Choose Still Mind in Fort Lauderdale

As a Joint Commission accredited psychiatric provider, Still Mind delivers high-acuity mental health care grounded in clinical evidence, where stabilization is the strategy, not an afterthought.

    7-Day Psychiatric Coverage

Week One · Your Individualized Plan

Clinical and medical assessments begin day one. Within week one, your team builds a measurable plan: sleep target (7–8 hrs), medication consistency, mood baseline (PHQ-9). No processing work starts until stabilization goals are clear.

Every Day · Six Hours of Group Therapy

Psychoeducation, CBT-based, DBT skills, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and art therapy led by licensed clinicians. Groups focus on stabilization, emotion regulation, and daily coping skills.

Every Week · Individual Therapy & Family Sessions

A scheduled 60-minute session with your assigned therapist, never skipped. Mid-week check-ins and homework review. Weekly family therapy when clinically appropriate.

Every Two Weeks · Progress Reassessment

Your LOCUS rating is formally reassessed every two weeks, giving you and your family an objective measure of stabilization. Data-driven progress tracking guides step-down planning.

    When You're Ready · Step-Down Planning

Once the psychiatrist and team confirm stabilization, we engage your family, identify the right program nationwide, and arrange your transport there.

    Technology-Based Therapies

    On-Site Brain Mapping & TMS

Few residential psychiatric facilities offer technology-based therapies on campus. At Still Mind, a dedicated buildout houses our quantitative EEG brain mapping and TMS technology, administered by a licensed technician as part of your treatment plan.

Using visual and auditory stimulation in a controlled environment, these sessions guide you into a meditative state designed to help reconcile severe trauma, distressing memories, anxiety, and depression, without the destabilizing intensity of premature talk-based trauma processing.

Why we hold EMDR for outpatient care

EMDR requires a stabilized client to be safe and effective. Because our clients arrive acutely dysregulated, we intentionally defer EMDR until after discharge and help you plan for it as part of your step-down.

    Common Questions

    Residential Mental Health Program FAQ

How long is the residential mental health program?
The average length of stay is about 42 days, though your timeline is determined by clinical progress, not a fixed calendar. Your LOCUS rating is reassessed every two weeks, and discharge planning begins when the psychiatrist and team confirm stabilization.
What conditions does Still Mind treat?
We treat adults 18+ with severe mood disorders (bipolar I, major depression), psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder), anxiety and trauma disorders (PTSD, CPTSD, OCD, panic), personality disorders including BPD, and neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and ADHD. Co-occurring substance use is treated in the same program. We do not treat eating disorders.
Do you offer EMDR or trauma processing?
Not during your stay, by design. EMDR requires a stabilized client to be safe, and our clients typically arrive too dysregulated. We stabilize first, then help you plan for EMDR after discharge. Our on-site brain mapping and TMS sessions offer a gentler approach to distressing memories during your stay.
Will I have access to my phone?
Phones are securely stored at admission to protect a distraction-free environment. As you progress, approved outside calls are available with staff support. It's one of several privileges, along with off-campus outings, earned through clinical progress.
    How is my family involved?
Family can share background at intake, and weekly family therapy is available when clinically appropriate. Anyone who could aggravate your condition is kept out of early treatment, and family is fully engaged as you approach stabilization and discharge.
Does insurance cover residential mental health treatment?
Many plans include residential mental health benefits. Our admissions team verifies your coverage at no cost before admission. We also hold an active Tricare contract and a contract with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Call (561) 782-1672 or use the verification form above.
I live out of state. Can I still come to Still Mind?
Yes. Most of our clients travel from out of state. Our admissions team helps coordinate your arrival in Fort Lauderdale, and when you're ready to step down, we identify programs anywhere in the country and arrange your transportation there.
    What are the rooms like?
Still Mind is a 30-bed residential facility with shared accommodations: a deliberately community-oriented setting where connection is part of the clinical model. The property includes green space, multiple outdoor areas, catered meals three times daily, and an open snack bar.

    Find Steady Ground Again

Severe mental illness makes everything feel urgent and impossible at once. Stabilization changes that. Our admissions team is available now for a confidential conversation about whether Still Mind's residential mental health program is the right next step for you or someone you love.
